Walt Disney Channel announced on Tuesday that it would release a documentary featuring a white basketball player and his black teammate.
The docuseries, “White Privilege: Black Athletes, Basketball, and the NBA,” will air on Disney Channel on Dec. 8 and 9.
The film will feature interviews with players who grew up around basketball and other sports, as well as African-American athletes and people of color who are active in the league.
It will also feature interviews about the NBA Players Association’s efforts to have the league change its racial history, including the NBA’s first African-Americans to play in the NBA.
“In this special and groundbreaking documentary, Walt Disney explores the impact of racism in the American sports industry and the impact it has on the lives of African- Americans and other people of colour,” said Kristy Burch, vice president of programming for Disney Channel.
The documentary will be part of the Disney Channel documentary series, “Walt D. Disney’s Basketball” which airs at 12:00 p.m.
